Our very Christmas ever! β€ππ
One of the most special day in our lives is to celebrate Christmas day with our love ones.
Before we talk about Christmas Day celebrations, letβs begin with why do we celebrate Christmas?
Christmas Day is celebrated to commemorate the birth of a baby β Jesus Christ, some 2000 years ago (in about 4 B.C.) in an old town of Bethlehem (now called Israel) to a young woman named Mary.
The birth of Christ was significant at a time when people were ruled by ignorance, hypocrisy, superstition, hatred, greed, and immorality. Christ gave a new and a spiritual turn to the lives of men and is therefore revered as The Savior/The Messiah.
The word βChristmasβ comes from the Mass of Christ (Jesus Christ). Here, a mass service (referred to as Communion or Eucharist) is done to recall how Jesus died for the people and then came back to life.
Christmas is celebrated with great joy and glory by people around the world with their friends and family. Itβs the time when people engage in merry-making. They visit the church, sing christmas carols, participate in religious services, exchange gifts, and decorate their homes with christmas tree, lights, and christmas star. Some people also prepare mouth-watering feasts and christmas pudding.
And, children are no exception!
Is it Christmas or Xmas? Teach the Kids!!
Well, some people refer to Christmas as X-mas.
In the Greek language and alphabet, the alphabet that looks like X means chi (pronounced as Kye). This is the first letter of the Greek word for Christ (Christos in greek). The suffix βmasβ has been derived from the Old English word βMassβ in reference to mass service.
So, while we can write βXmasβ for Christmas but it is appropriate to pronounce it as βChristmasβ rather than βex-masβ.
Let’s celebrate Christmas with our love ones, filled it with joy, happiness and gratitude! God bless us all! π
